Up for sale is a lovely, large specimen of Boulder Opal.

The specimen features a gemmy white and gray layer of Opal across one of the facades of the specimen.

Opal is originally formed from a solution of silica in water, hydrated silica. The silica as concentrated by evaporation to a state of gel, which then filled cracks and cavities in sandstone, ironstone and basalt, and further evaporation of the water caused the gel to set into Solid Opal.

The piece measures: 2.7" x 1.6" x 1.3" (67mm x 41mm x 32mm)

Pyritic Promicroceras fossils are commonly found along the coast of Lyme Regis where they are well preserved in the Lower Jurassic (Sinemurian) Black Ven Marl.
